Education is of vital importance to Wet Nose, as we believe that the lack thereof is the reason for so many abused, abandoned and neglected animals, as well as for the millions of unwanted litters of puppies and kittens in the world today. In South Africa we are faced with an enormous education challenge. Many families cannot afford to care for themselves, let alone their animals. There are a lot of myths and untruths told regarding animals, and even strange beliefs that certain animals are evil and should be stoned. Even the highly educated have some strange ideas regarding certain aspects (like sterilization). Wet Nose often visit schools to educate the children, who in turn often educate their parents. We recently opened our very own Education Centre for groups of up to 250 children or students at a time. These groups are given a presentation about responsible pet ownership, and thereafter can spend time with the animals or have a picnic. This makes for a fun and very informative day for both children and teachers.
TEAM BUILDING AND SOCIAL/CORPORATE DEVELOPMENT
Many companies get involved with charity organizations as part of their social responsibility projects. If you work for a company who has this kind of program, suggest doing something with Wet Nose – either through volunteering (this includes walking and playing with the animals, painting kennels/enclosures/stables), fundraising events or donations.
Often companies bring groups of employees to Wet Nose for their team building exercises. Employees can take part in team building activities, such as challenging each other to complete our special Wet Nose obstacle course, walking dogs, fixing kennels and painting or helping with whatever we may need done at the time. You can even have a picnic under the trees and do something for a good cause whilst building team spirit.
HOW TO HELP
Wet Nose needs to raise enough money every month to cover our overheads. It’s not just a matter of feeding the animals – every animal gets sterilized, de-wormed, vaccinated, microchipped and any other medical treatment they may need, including expensive operations from time to time. Telephones, petrol, salaries (although somewhat low) and electricity need to be paid, as well as constant maintenance to the property and kennels.
REMEMBER – ALL CASH DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE AND A SECTION 18A TAX CERTIFICATE CAN BE ISSUED UPON REQUEST, DUE TO OUR NPO STATUS.

Once you’ve fallen in love with your new best friend and you’ve decided to adopt, you’ll need to complete an application form/adoption contract. Your ID book or driver’s license will be required and property inspections apply.
The adoption fee will include sterilization of your pet, up-to-date deworming and vaccinations, and a microchip. Should you adopt an animal that’s still too young to be sterilized, a sterilization voucher will be issued. Cats over 6 months of age are also tested for Feline HIV and Leukemia before they are rehomed. This means that the value of all the treatment your new pet will receive, by far exceeds the adoption fee, and you’ll be a hero for giving a home to a rescue animal!
Since we don’t put animals down, some of our animals stay at Wet Nose for some time before they find a home. Although they get to play in exercise runs and get taken for walks by our staff, they’re always happy to see the volunteers who walk them, play with them, groom them and provide extra tender loving care.
You’re most welcome to become a Wet Nose volunteer: you’ll be required to complete a form and you’ll be shown the ropes. After that, you can come and spend time at Wet Nose whenever you like (when we’re open).
Children under 16 will have to be accompanied by an adult, as we do not want to lose an animal or have injuries.
So, come along and try it – you’ll love it and so will the animals.
Kennel sponsors are the life line of our survival and a great way of supporting Wet Nose.
A Kennel sponsorship is a monthly amount donated (as much or as little as you can afford) on a debit order basis, to assist the running of a specific kennel or enclosure.
Your contribution will go towards the feeding, caring and medical expenses of the animal that’s in your kennel. As a sponsor, your name will go on the kennel and we’ll let you know all about the animal, including when it gets a new home. You’ll also receive a Kennel Sponsors Certificate and you’ll become a member of the Wet Nose family. You’ll be able to visit “your” animal whenever you like and even meet the kennel staff member in charge of their care.
With the kennel sponsors, we can budget more effectively than we can on once-off donations. You may stop your sponsorship whenever, for whatever reason – so, go ahead and become a sponsor and a hero!
Wills & Estates
One of the ways you can help us, is by including us in your will. If your will is already drawn up, you can add a codicil to your existing will without having to rewrite your will, in which you can bequeath funds, property or anything else you think may assist us to continue helping animals in need.
If you have a way of raising funds for our furbabies and don’t mind giving your time and skills, let’s work together to help those that can’t do it for themselves! We’ve even had hairdressers cut hair and beauty therapists who’ve massaged their fingers to the bone all day in aid of Wet Nose – so if you have ideas for a fundraising event, let us know!
